It’s really hard to get away from your hectic everyday schedule. The constant pressure at work, school or even at home can take its toll and leave you anxious or completely drained of energy. It would be great if you had a big PAUSE button you can hit every time you need a break. But unfortunately, you don’t.
Achieving a perfect balance in everything that you do is quite impossible but finding zen and just slowing down for a bit is actually necessary. That is something you have to do by yourself and at your own pace. However, there are a couple of tips which may help you on your journey to discovering peace and tranquility.
TAKE A DEEP BREATH
First, start by taking a deep breath. Anytime you feel overwhelmed, stop, focus on yourself and breathe. Try to pay attention to what you are doing and if you can, and try pronouncing the words “let” and “go” while breathing slowly. Inhale through the nostrils while filling your stomach with air and say let. Then, exhale again through your nose while saying to yourself go. By doing this exercise repeatedly, your heart rate will slow down, you’ll sharpen your focus and you will immediately start to feel poised and grounded.
COUNT TO TEN
You might think it sounds silly, but counting to ten really helps. You should try it next time you’re faced with a stressful situation. Besides that, breathe deeply and you’ll feel the anxiety and tension leaving your body. Remember to count as slowly as you can and focus on your breathing in the process; that way, you’ll achieve the maximum effect.
TAKE A WALK, RIDE A BIKE
Most of us spend too much time in our cars even though we are well aware that walking or riding a bike is healthy and a great way to release pressure. Instead of driving to the store or even work, try walking or if it’s farther away, ride a bike. Get up early and go to your favorite coffee shop or to the beach. This way, you’ll get some much-needed exercise, which in return helps you relax, unwind, and just feel better about yourself. Being more active will bring you one step closer to your desired zen state.
As said before, physical activity is a great way to release stress and nothing gets the work done better than yoga. It relaxes body and mind while at the same time developing a strong connection between the two. It helps you let go of the negative emotions like fear, anger, and guilt and charges you with positive energy. The best place to practice yoga is somewhere quiet and peaceful using essentials like prayer flags, mats and meditation cushions in order to feel comfortable and tranquil. Practicing yoga, especially during stressful periods, enables you to maintain balance and reduce negative effects anxiety has on your health.
TAKE A COLD SHOWER
A daily cold shower will calm your nerves, thus, helping your body to fight stress more effectively. Start with your feet first and slowly move up allowing your body to adjust to the cold water temperature. After you’re finished with the shower, massage your skin with natural almond oil, wipe it off with a towel, get dressed and start your day with that wonderful sensation of feeling fresh and awake.
The important thing to remember is to take some time for yourself. Listen to your body and it will tell you when to slow down. Keeping your mind steady and your body healthy makes all the difference in the world when it comes to dealing with stressful situations. So, take care of yourself and you’ll find your zen in no time.
