January Cleaning: Simple Tricks For A Balanced Life.
We all have the optimistic idea that New Year also means ‘new me’, and we wonder when exactly will we wake up feeling different (feeling better).
We hope that we will become happy, healthy, in love, and in control of our life, and naively think that these things will come overnight.
January cleaning is the first step on the path to improvement and change, and it is therapeutic as much as it is practical. Get a fresh start this New Year and bring balance back in your life with a couple of simple tricks.
1- Declutter Your Home
Look around you. What do you see? Is everything in order or is there a number of things scattered, dusty, and messy? Be honest with yourself: do you have too many things in your home? Things tend to pile up over time: clothes, toys, trinkets, magazines, memorabilia… All of these things inevitably become messy and from time to time get in the way.
January is the perfect time to declutter your home. Clean each room thoroughly and put aside the things you don’t really need anymore. Donate old clothes and toys to someone who needs them more than you.

2– It smells divine
What does your home smell like? Does it smell of your cooking, clean laundry, or cleaning chemicals? It is important to be surrounded with pleasant smells and aromas: lavender helps us sleep and mint refreshes us.
A simple commercial air purifier and a couple of scented candles will make a tremendous difference. You will notice that you’re taking deeper breaths, you will cough and sneeze less, and your allergies will not be bothering you anymore.
Lovely smells will calm you down and you will be able to focus on your tasks better than before.
3- Reorganize things
It’s wonderful to get used to something: you feel safe and protected when all around you are things and people you know well. However, changes are good; they make us more alert and make us feel refreshed.
You don’t have to move or change your physical appearance drastically; sometimes a simple reorganization of your living space is enough. Change the place for your shelf or rotate your bed, move your armchair and change your carpet.
Get creative with the space your live in and improvise with things you already own. You will be surprised how much better you will feel in a slightly different surrounding.

4- Bring order back into your life
We all have that one drawer where we keep the ‘junk’ we don’t know where else to put. Get rid of that drawer/box. Create a place for everything, and when you finish using a certain thing or an item, put it back in its place. This way, you will not be tripping over pencils, sharpeners, clothes, and trinkets, and you will know where everything is at all times.
Make a commitment to being organized and stick to it without falling into ‘junk drawer’ trap. Every couple of weeks do a small clean up and get rid of things that piled up over time, and try to keep your space clean and well organized.
We start each New Year with a list of resolutions, but after a while we stop focusing on them. It’s important to make small changes in life and to adjust to new situations. Bringing balance back into your life does not mean that you will be in control all the time; it is more about your attitude.
Things always change, and instead of trying to keep everything as it is all the time, try to be more relaxed and laid-back and to enjoy life.
